Every dollar spent at the Rooted in the Work store goes beyond the transaction.

It’s about honoring stories, creating opportunities, and building restorative ecosystems in real time.

Every purchase you make from our store is an investment in community care.

All profit is divided equally across four impact areas to ensure transparency, equity, and intentionality.

  • Team Vacation Fund

Rooted in the Work wouldn’t exist without the people behind it. Inspired by the dreams of those on Rikers Island, who often imagined traveling as a form of freedom, this portion ensures our team can rest and recharge, in a way that’s truly liberatory.

These vacations? They’re more than trips—they’re acts of restorative living, honoring the vision of those who couldn’t experience it themselves.

  • Gentrification Mutual Aid

Displacement due to gentrification is real and a painful reality for so many New Yorkers.

This fund directly supports individuals and families at risk of losing their homes in the five boroughs. Whether it’s rent assistance or emergency support, we’re here to intervene where the system won’t.

This fund will remain closed until we reach our initial goal of $5,000. Then, we will open to anyone facing displacement in NYC - writing to us directly to request support.

  • Community Designed Events

Let the people dream. Let the people build.

This fund puts resources directly into the hands of system-impacted individuals to design and execute community events. Whether it’s a block party, a pop-up food pantry, or a wellness retreat—this is about empowering leaders to create spaces of joy, connection, and restoration.

  • Operational Sustainability

Building systems that last shouldn’t feel like burning money, but it often does.

This portion of our funding is dedicated to keeping Rooted in the Work running strong, covering essential costs like technology, supplies, and maintaining the integrity of our programming.
