“Rikers taught me that no matter where we come from, our spirits are interconnected. I saw strength and resilience in places most people overlook, a reminder that the essence of who we are can thrive even in the toughest circumstances.”
– Ms. V
Hi, I’m Ms. V!
And yes, that’s me, sitting at that metal table on Rikers Island, Enhanced Supervision Housing, with a forgotten tray on the corner of the table. The City Councilwoman next to me came in, claiming to “know best,” asking me what I’d do if the people in custody we’re illiterate.
Moments like these have shaped my work, not just because of the absurdity, but because they remind me what it means to truly center people in spaces where they are so often ignored.
A Bit About Me
I’m a restorative strategist, consultant, and someone who believes in the power of care, connection, and justice to transform systems. My work lives at the intersection of strategy and community, informed by the lessons I’ve learned from the people whos stories and resilience inspire me every day.
I’ve worked in spaces where survival isn’t optional - it’s a daily demand. From Rikers Island to advocacy rooms and workforce development spaces, my framework is built on accountability, equity, and the belief that change doesn’t happen without intentional care.
Rooted in the Work was born out of this drive: to bridge the gap between strategy and heart. While consulting allows me to create systemic solutions, I needed a way to stay connected to the communities I care about most. This platform is my way of doing both
My Approach
I’m not here for band-aid solutions or performative change. Whether you’re looking to reimagine systems, build restorative frameworks, or create spaces rooted in equity and accountability, my work is grounded in one thing: centering the people impacted by these systems. Always.

For those looking for an accessible way to stay connected, my Patreon is where I share the tools, reflections, and frameworks that guide my work. Whether you’re looking for practical guidance, insight into how we build outside traditional institutions, or a space to learn at your own pace, this platform was created to make that knowledge accessible.
At Rooted in the Work, every team member has a Patreon. We believe that labor should be resourced, not exploited, and that the people doing this work deserve financial independence. Instead of relying on outside funders or institutions that dictate the terms, we build models of support that allow us to continue our work without compromise.
When you contribute, you’re not just supporting me. You’re sustaining a collective vision - one where the people closest to the work are valued, and where justice is built on care, accountability, and self-sufficiency.
